Home care in central Ottawa helps seniors in the city's established neighbourhoods stay in the homes they know. 1st Home Health Care sends caregivers to Vanier, Alta Vista, Westboro, the Glebe and the areas around them for personal care, companionship, respite, meals and overnight support. This is non-medical care: we do not give medication, change dressings or do nursing procedures. Our office is in Orleans, and care is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Central Ottawa is a patchwork of older neighbourhoods, and many seniors here have lived in the same house or apartment for decades. The homes often have character, and also steep stairs, narrow doorways and small bathrooms that become harder to use with age. Family members may live nearby or far away, and many are worried about the next fall.
We start with a conversation about your parent: how the day goes, what is getting difficult and what they would like to keep doing. Then we suggest a plan, from a few hours a week to round-the-clock care. Our caregivers come to the home from our Orleans office.
We send the same caregiver wherever we can, so your parent gets to know them. Our personal support workers (PSWs) are PSW certified, and our sitters are CPR certified. We are insured and bonded, our caregivers are covered by WSIB, and we run Police Vulnerable Sector Checks.

Personal care is hands-on help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and moving safely around the house, given by a PSW with patience and respect for privacy. Families in central Ottawa often call after a fall or a hospital stay. Read more about our personal care services.
A companion visits for conversation, cards, a walk or a coffee out. It suits a parent in central Ottawa who lives alone and spends long days with little company. Read more about companion care in Ottawa.
If you are the one providing care, you need time to rest. A caregiver can stay with your parent for a few hours, a full day or longer, so you can sleep, work or step away. Read more about respite care.
